今週末はウクレレ・フェスティバルの現場に出ていました。

このフェスティバルはハワイでウクレレ教室を運営するロイ・サクマさんが主催し、５２年間続けていたのですが、ロイさんの高齢に伴い、２０２２年を最後に幕を閉じました。

しかし、ハワイでウクレレ教室を経営するサザンオールスターズの関口さんの会社がその意志を引き継ぐ事になり、今年が復活後の最初の開催になったそうです。

僕は運営側のバイリンガル・コーディネーターで雇用されたので、一日中あちこち動き回ってて、じっくりは見れませんでしたが、ハワイを代表するウクレレ奏者ジェイク島袋さんの演奏は圧巻でした。

翌日の今日は関係者での打ち上げ。みんなウクレレ片手に店の中でも演奏が始まり、楽しい２時間でした。

This weekend I worked for the 2024 Ukulele Festival . This festival has been going on for 52 years, till 2022 due to the founder Mr Roy Sakuma’s retirement. 

Just when we all thought it was over, Mr Sakaguchi, who is a member of a well accomplished Japanese pop band “Southern All Stars”  and also runs a ukulele school in Honolulu was given the right to  carry the torch and this year was the first year he took over this event .

I was working as a bilingual event assistant there for  was  walking around the area all day so I never was able to actually sit down and watch the whole show , but I was able to see Jake Shimabukuro who was just simply incredible 

Today Sunday was the wrap dinner at a restaurant in Waikiki and had a great time
