Snow storm in Toronto on Thursday

2022年12月16日

A winter storm brought freezing rain, heavy snow and ice to Toronto yesterday.  I was lucky that freezing rain didn't start until late morning, after I had a chance to walk my dog.  She would go crazy if she didn't get a chance to go outside. A 10 minute walk was by no means a satisfactory walk to her, but it was better than nothing.  Freezing rain occurs around zero degree when rain turns to ice on contact with the ground.

It has been raining for hours and the roads must be slippery.  Fortunately the rain turned to snow in the afternoon.  I was working at home and didn't need to go anywhere until mid afternoon when it was time to pick up the kids from school.

This video was taken last night. It was really windy and cold at that time.

It is Friday morning now and the snow continues. Canadians are used to heavy snow and it is no big deal.  Kids love to play in the snow, and dogs too ^_^

Here are some words describing differnt kinds of precipitation.

Precipitation - any liquid or frozen water that forms in the atmosphere and falls back to the earth.  It comes in rain, sleet, hail and snow.

Sleet - ice pellets, often mixed with rain and snow

Hail, or hailstones - large ice pellets

Ice pellets - small hard balls of ice

Difference between sleet and hail - the ice pellets of a sleet are smaller in size
